National cuisine of Macedonia is very similar to that of Turkey and Greece. Other influences came from Bulgaria and Italy. Traditional food includes bread, minced meat dishes, soups, lamb kebabs, stews, stuffed vegetables, and moussaka. The most wide spread vegetables are aubergines, cucumbers, peppers, potatoes and tomatoes. It is worth trying local specialties, among which there are Ajvar (national sauce, cooked of sweet red peppers), Gravce tavce (beans in a skillet), and Burek (a pie filled with ham, cheese and beef). Turkish coffee is drunk all over the country. Wine, beer and soft drinks are produced locally. One of them is Mastika (local hard drink, made of anis).
